Creating Free Reports to Capture Leads

By Linda Capiak

Statistics show that information products continue to be high in sales volume globally. People are hungry for new information and eager to learn of "secrets revealed". For some, just learning one new idea is worth the money spent on a CD program, ebook, or other informational piece.

With that said, I have found it rather easy to create a simple informational report to give away for free in an effort to capture leads for my primary business. Coincidently, the first report that I ever created for use online, was a report entitled, A Review of Lead Capture Pages. Where I reviewed four companies that provide lead capture page services. Having experimented with all four companies, I developed some distinct likes and dislikes about them. So, I simply wrote about these experiences and then created my "free report".

The mechanics of creating the free report that would be accessible online was yet another challenge. It involved four steps. First, I created the document in a Word file. I dressed it up a bit with a shadow box page border. I made sure that all my affiliate links worked properly in the document. This way I would get credit if anyone read my report and decided to subscribe to any of these services, since they all have affiliate programs.

In step two, I had the Word document converted to a PDF file. I used a free service online and almost instantly received the PDF file to my email box.

Next I had the PDF file uploaded to free account at Freewebs so I could get a link for the PDF file. After I got the url, I then placed it into my tracking program, Trackthatad. Then I could trace all the activity of my newly created report.

Once I had the report created, I proceeded to make my lead capture page. To advertise my "Free Report". for this purpose, I used EZ LeadCapture, because they had a template already available for Free Reports. I then placed that link into my tracker to get a tracking url for the lead capture page.

In conclusion, you can build a contact list faster by offering free information to the target market you are trying to capture. By carefully selecting your topic, you can attract the client base you are most needing to attract for your type of business. Free Reports and Capture pages are the perfect combination to generate your own exclusive high quality leads. With a little practice and perseverance anyone can create professional looking capture pages to offer an original free report.
